Hammer purchased new 2 years ago.
Pitons were acquired used (material unknown).

The hammer had rust, so silicone spray was applied and wiped off. The pitons were also sprayed with silicone spray and wiped.

The hammer was carried on a river climbing trip, and I practiced hammering and throwing the pitons once, so there are scratches.

If you attach a carabiner with a biner-gate to the hammerhead hole, an oval-shaped one might fit.

It would be good to attach a safety cord using a thin rope to the hole at the bottom of the shaft. If you don't take fall prevention measures, you won't be able to retrieve the hammer if you drop it in a deep pool.

Chromoly pitons are less likely to bend, so there might be a chance of retrieval.
